true

You need to see the desert at least once in your life, and better yet, spend time with it from the gentle dawn until the night sky is scattered with constellations. Sleep in a tent where nomads have lived for centuries, and in the morning, set off to explore a country where the labyrinths of the old city coexist with modern promenades, where the desert touches the ocean, and where thousand-year-old tales and legends resonate alongside the rhythm of a metropolis.

‍

Ten days to feel the shifting sands of the Sahara with your bare feet, touch cool marble and the pink walls of old fortresses, haggle for freshly baked clay plates, and drink mint tea after a hammam. Of course, in comfortable female company, where everything is welcome: photos on jeeps, champagne on the Atlantic coast, laughter, jokes, and tears of happiness in the blue city.

Day 1. Meeting the Red City

‍

We arrive in the city of heat and spices — Marrakech — and are immediately transported to another reality. The sun-drenched, bustling capital could be overwhelming, but we are met by a transfer from the airport to take us to our riad — a traditional Moroccan house with an inner courtyard, a fountain, and a rooftop terrace. Once upon a time, wealthy local merchants and traders spent their stifling afternoons here.

‍

The red clay of Marrakech's buildings, dried to a salmon-pink hue, is a delight to the eyes as we walk through the city to the key point of today's introduction — Jemaa el-Fnaa square. Once you arrive, the air immediately thickens: it smells of grilled meat and orange zest, cups and plates clatter in the smoke from the grills, and someone calls out, “Bonjour madame.” The world around you is buzzing, and you are right in the center of it.

‍

And over dinner after a busy day, we will get to know each other better, because it is so interesting to hear what brought each of us to this beautifully wild country.

‍

Day 2. Palaces of Marrakech, the medina, spices, and hammam

‍

In anticipation of exploring the city, we meet our guide in the morning. First, we visit the ruins of the El Badi Palace: touch the fragments of polished marble — cool and smooth, it preserves the memory of times of royal luxury. And after the colors and textured mosaics of the Bahia Palace, built for one of the vizier's 24 wives, we dive into the medina — a labyrinth of narrow streets filled with artisan workshops.

You begin to understand why Yves Saint Laurent once bought a villa here... The Jewish quarter, Mellah, smells of almonds and candles. A few bags of spices will definitely go home with you (as will a couple of Moroccan clay plates from our afternoon shopping).

The evening offer to visit a hammam will become a simple routine, as in Morocco, it is the best way to relax after the variety of things seen during the day. If you wish, we will end our long day with this ritual and get a good night's sleep, wrapped in the aromas of essential massage oils.

‍

Day 3. Marrakech from above, Bacha Coffee, and a free evening

Today we are in no rush. And if you want to see Marrakech in a completely different way, we can optionally go for a hot air balloon flight: we will rise above the red roofs and palm groves, with the peaks of the Atlas Mountains appearing in the distance. From above, Morocco is quiet and vast — not at all like the bustling Marrakech we already know.

Around lunchtime, we’ll meet at the legendary Bacha Coffee, one of Marrakech’s most famous cafes, tucked away inside the opulent Dar El Bacha palace. Its exquisite interiors, hundreds of Arabica varieties, and unique service have made it a destination that keeps travelers coming back to Marrakech time and time again.

After that, the rest of the day is yours: wander the streets, pick up some souvenirs, hunt for that perfect piece of pottery or jewelry, or simply watch Marrakech go by from a terrace.

In the evening, we’ll head back to the riad to relax—tomorrow, a long journey awaits, and we’ll see a completely different side of Morocco.

‍

Day 4. Through the mountains to an ancient settlement

‍

We’ll enjoy breakfast and coffee at the riad while watching the city slowly wake up, then hit the road through the Atlas Mountains, passing snow-capped peaks, winding mountain passes, red cliffs, and tiny villages. Your camera will capture the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, home to countless Berber fortresses made of clay, straw, and wood. You’ll feel it in your bones: you are exactly where you’re meant to be.

‍

By evening, we’ll reach Aït Benhaddou, one of the country’s most beautiful Berber settlements. Walking among the clay towers and narrow corridors feels like being on a movie set—scenes from Gladiator, Prince of Persia, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones were all filmed here. We’ll spend the night in an ancient kasbah, a clay fortress converted into a comfortable hotel.

‍

Day 5. Camping in the heart of the Sahara

‍

The Sahara. The word itself sounds like the promise of the ultimate adventure. We’re heading to the world’s largest hot desert, a place of extreme beauty where the sand can heat up to 45–50°C in the summer.

‍

The drive will take up most of the day, but this is one of those times when the journey is just as good as the destination. We’ll be traveling in a comfortable, air-conditioned private vehicle, so as the Martian landscapes drift by outside, you’ll have plenty of time to prep: plan your outfits for tomorrow’s photoshoot, save some pose references on Pinterest, listen to Moroccan radio, or just sit in silence and reflect.

‍

By evening, we’ll reach Merzouga, the gateway town where civilization meets the sands. This is where the pavement ends and the magic begins. We’ll hop into 4x4s and head deep into the Erg Chebbi dunes to our camp. We’ll spend the night in tents (yes, with real beds!), enjoy a fragrant tagine, dance to live Berber music, and gaze at a sky with more stars than there are grains of sand beneath your feet. Tonight, you’ll fall asleep in the heart of the desert.

‍

Day 6. Golden dunes and 1,001 photos in the sand

‍

At Girls Only Travel, we believe that at least once in your life, you should watch the sunrise in the Sahara. Standing barefoot in sand cooled by the night, you feel the morning sun embrace this vast expanse with its warmth. The desert wakes up, and we head off on quad bikes toward the higher dunes. We’ll take a thousand and one incredible photos here, so don't forget to bring outfits that match the golden sands and your favorite camera. By the way, film shots turn out especially atmospheric here.

The desert strips away fear and fills you with energy, so you’ll be ready to try sandboarding and wander tirelessly through small Berber villages, learning how nomads prepare tea and live in harmony with the sands. With such insights, the second night in tents with dinner around a campfire feels filled with universal wisdom and total peace.

‍

Day 7. The road is the best place to think about life

‍

After breakfast at the camp, we say goodbye to the Sahara. Ahead lies a long, yet incredibly beautiful journey north. The landscape changes quickly: the Moroccan "Little Alps" begin. The cedar forests here are so dense that it’s hard to believe we were in the sands just this morning. And the Barbary macaques watch us closely as we pass.

We arrive in Fes in the evening, just as the city is covered in a soft, golden light. A riad with a terrace and mint tea washes away the haze of road fatigue. Amidst sincere girl talk, a stroll through the quiet alleys sets the mood for sleep in the oldest of the country's four imperial cities. And in a new place, as you know, you can dream of all sorts of interesting things.

‍

Day 8. Fes — a city of 9,000 streets, wisdom, and crafts

‍

Fes has so many wonders in its arsenal that it’s worth spending a whole day there. First, we’ll visit Al-Qarawiyyin, the oldest operating university in the world, which still preserves the atmosphere of the era of thinkers. Then, the Fes pottery workshops: you’ll immediately want to take home at least one more plate (or three).

‍

After a sweet and savory pie for lunch (which is only made in Morocco), we head into the Fes el-Bali medina. They say it’s the largest car-free urban area in the world: in a maze of 9,000 streets, artisans, cafes, and countless spice shops coexist side by side. We won't miss the legendary Chouara Tannery, where leather has been dyed with natural pigments for centuries.

‍

In the evening, after kilometers of the medina and the kaleidoscope of its labyrinths, all we need is our favorite hammam with black soap, a scrub, and whispered jokes.

‍

Day 9. The blue magic of Chefchaouen

‍

A new day brings a new adventure, and here you are in Chefchaouen—that very "blue city" that so often appeared in your dreams of traveling to Morocco. In reality, everything is, of course, much more magical: the spectrum of blue is breathtaking. With gratitude to the Jewish communities who moved here in the 15th century and painted the walls indigo, we climb to the white mosque on the hill. Olive trees stretch out under the sun on all sides of the path, the air is saturated with the scent of herbs, and the view of the city demands that you clear out a thousand photos from the desert, because this needs to be captured too!

‍

Spend the afternoon wandering the city with the girls; everyone’s eyes are shining—perhaps even a little teary-eyed from happiness. We’re staying here for the night.

‍

Day 10. The Atlantic awaits in Casablanca!

Chefchaouen wakes up gently: the doors of small shops creak open, the air smells of fresh cookies, and rugs are drying in the sun. You find yourself wishing you could stay for a few more days. But we have breakfast and head out—Casablanca is waiting!

In the Ain Diab district along the Corniche, you’ll find the vast, open Atlantic: waves crashing against the rocks, palm trees swaying in the breeze, and surfers playing in the surf, confidently breathing in the salty air.

‍

Next, we admire one of Morocco’s most beautiful architectural gems: the Hassan II Mosque, which seems to rise right out of the water. As you get closer, you see the massive minaret, intricate marble carvings, patterned mosaics, and turquoise details. Modern, oceanic Casablanca keeps us for the night in another atmospheric hotel.

‍

Day 11. “Here’s looking at you, kid.”

Someone mentions the film classic—the 1942 "Casablanca," the source of the line "Here’s looking at you, kid," a symbol of nostalgia, romance, and the magic of a bygone era. The morning arrives a bit suddenly: you realize ten days have passed—intense, warm, diverse, yet so harmonious. It’s time to head home.

We hug, laugh, share our favorite photos, and after breakfast, hop into the transfer to the airport. A final wave to the ocean from the window, and on to dreaming about our next trip together.
